Polycrystalline Solar Panels

Polycrystalline solar panels, also known as multi-crystalline panels, are a common type of photovoltaic technology. Here's a brief description:

  • Manufacturing:
    • They're made by melting down multiple silicon fragments together in a mold. This results in a panel with many crystals, hence the "polycrystalline" name.  
  • Appearance:
    • They typically have a blueish hue and a speckled, or "marbled," appearance due to the multiple crystals.  
  • Efficiency:
    • Generally, they have a lower efficiency compared to monocrystalline panels, meaning they convert less sunlight into electricity.   
  • Cost:
    • They are usually less expensive to produce than monocrystalline panels, making them a more budget-friendly option.  
  • Use cases:
    • They are utilized in a very wide variety of solar installations, from residential, to commercial, and also in large scale solar farms.   

In essence, polycrystalline panels offer a more affordable solar energy solution, though they may require slightly more space to produce the same amount of power as monocrystalline panels.
